The second tooth, standing, and Sister Stevens

This is a pic of Salomon, Liane and Sister Stevens about 4 months ago... what a neat lady!! An inspiration!

So yesterday Liane's second tooth finally broke through... poor lil thing has had a hard time teething, although this one was WAY better than the first. At least this time she was still sleeping well at night and eating and playing as usual... thankgoodness! Gives me some hope for the rest of her teeth (but I am not holding my breath :-) Liane's new thing now is standing up... well she has been doing that since she could crawl (pull herself up to stand), but I mean stand up from a sitting position and hold it there for a while. She has always had amazing balance so I knew when she started to stand on her own she wouldnt have any problems. So what, I guess the next step is actually walking huh? Wow- it is so fun to watch her reach all of these milestones! She is a strong, healthy and happy little girl - what more could a mom want right? :-)

Last night Salomon, Liane and I went to visit Sister Stevens... she celebrated her 92 birthday this week and we wanted to pay her a visit. Sister Stevens is the woman whom Salomon lived with when he first moved to the states from Mexico City when he was 16. She and her husband met Salomon and his family when they were serving one of their missions in the Mexico City temple and when they returned home they offered to let Salomon live there with them so he could go to school and learn the English language. What a blessing that was for Salomon and his family - it opened the door for all of them to so many great things. Sister Stevens lives alone now - he husband died a few years back. She is an amazing woman. At 92 she still drives, attends the temple, goes to the "beauty shop", to her granddaughters volleyball games, and loves to garden. She is a faithful strong woman and very witty I might add. We adore her and try to pay her a visit whenever we can. She is like another greatgrandmother to Liane.

Memories

Heres a little game! I like games....who doesn't? Leave a comment on my blog of a memory that you and I have had together. It doesn't matter if you've known me for a short time, or a long time, anything you remember!Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I'll assume you're playing the game and I'll come to your blog and leave one about you.Ready, Set, GO!

Family Home Evening at the pool.. .ok so it's not "home"

On Monday night we took Liane to the Rec center pool... this girl loves the water! She had such a blast playing in the fountains and swimming in the pool... too cute! I think she is really going to love Florida next month. We had a blast seeing her so happy and excited and experiencing new things... what a blessing to be a parent!!

Pool,Breakfast & Aquarium...not together...

What kid doesnt love fishys right? We had fun at the very small aquarium here in Sandy UT. Perfect for short attention spans.

Taylorsville Rec Center Pool - Liane all worn out!

Liane loved the train ride and playing with daddy!

On Friday the 11th I took the Activity Days girls to the Rec center pool for a couple of hours... what a blast! We had such a good time swimming and going down the water slide. It was nice to have my friend Cynthia and her niece Hope there as well. I love being in the sun and water... reminds me of Cali... sniff sniff. Liane had a blast in the water as well and always loves seeing the girls... and they just adore her too! Later that night for date night - yes Liane comes too... we went to the Living Plant Aquarium -its a preview for one that will be built at a later time. Its very small and not worth the $8 you pay to get in, but it was fun to go do something different and give Liane new experiences. She loved looking at the fish and so did we... especially the jellyfish and the sea horses... amazing creatures!! That same weekend we had a Stake Breakfast with lots of activities for the kids... I took Liane on the train and she loved it! She was so tired but loved the ride and was smiling the whole time. I love watching and experiencing the world through her eyes. It is like being a kid all over again, but better because of the joy I feel seeing her happy too!

4th of July and the tooth

So a couple of days before the 4th of July I noticed that Liane had the top of her first tooth poking out! So cute! I thought how easily that had happened since she showed no signs whatsoever that she was in any pain or discomfort and I thought we had one of those babies... the ones who teeth with no problems... dun dun dun... until the 4th of July. Liane woke up that morning a different child. Still the one we love with all of our hearts, but all of a sudden she had a fever, stuffy nose, didnt want to eat or play and cried constantly. Where oh where has our little girl gone? Poor baby!! I think she cried more that week than she has all of her 10 months on this earth combined. Slowly but surely she has been getting better and is back to eating, sleeping and playing as usual. Now I am scared though... are we - I mean is she - going to have to go through this with every little tooth... heaven help us! I had the thought one night as I was trying to drift off to sleep... I thought to myself, I know Heavenly Father loves us and I know He is ever aware of us and our pain, our suffering, our need, and I know He wants to comfort us and help us. I thought about how much I love Liane and how I wanted to help her so badly, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't take the pain away... it was a necessary part of her growth and development. And then I thought - playing devils advocate- God is all powerful and can do anything He wants... so why did He make teething painful for babies?? They suffer and then forget about it, so there really cannot be any lessons learned from this for them right? And then I thought... duh, the lesson is not for them to learn, but for us... for ME. I need to learn patience and how to comfort. Liane suffered so I can learn something... I thank her for being a trooper and allowing mommy to learn. I thank Heavenly Father even more for the blessing of being a mom and having such an amazing little girl to be my daughter... how blessed am I? I am grateful for the teaching moments life presents us... the key is to recognize them and learn from them. Lesson learned... I hope. So needless to say, no fireworks for us here in cano-land on the 4th of July... but all is well... there will be many firework shows when the kids get older... right now we are needed somewhere else.
